An American Grunge/Punk band formed in 1987 in Aberdeen, Washington, by singer/guitarist Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic. Dave Grohl eventually joined in 1990 as the drummer after the succession of a few others in the position. The band's early sound was rooted in punk rock and later evolved to incorporate elements of hard rock and heavy metal, creating a style known as "grunge."
