The MP18 (Maschinenpistole 18) was a German submachine gun introduced in 1918 during World War I as the primary weapon of the Stormtroopers, assault troops specialized in trench combat. Often credited as the world's first submachine gun, its design became the basis for most European submachine guns manufactured between 1920 and 1960.
